Text messages and SMS consent

Open Settings → Text Messages to configure transactional account and service notifications. Texting is optional and off until enabled. Delivery also depends on platform/carrier readiness and the recipient's current consent.

An administrator with settings-write access manages this page. The admin-alert mobile is an organization setting, not a separate text destination for every staff member.

Owner alerts and client consent are different

Person or settingWhat it authorizes
Admin configures notification switchesWhich supported notifications the organization requests
Owner turns on texting and verifies their mobileTheir own account-alert opt-in, under the disclosure shown on the page
Client explicitly opts in for their mobileEligible service notifications to that client's saved number
Client accepts general portal Terms or Privacy PolicyPortal agreement—not an SMS opt-in by itself

An admin enabling a client notification does not consent on the client's behalf. A saved phone number alone is not consent.

Set up your alerts

  1. Review the owner disclosure on the settings page.
  2. Turn on text messaging and save your mobile number.
  3. Use Text me the code, then enter the six-digit verification code. Codes expire after ten minutes.
  4. If prompted, explicitly renew your text-alert opt-in.
  5. Check the page's readiness and opt-in-confirmation status, then choose the admin alert types you want.

Ordinary owner alerts wait for a current branded opt-in confirmation. If carrier setup is not ready, opt-in confirmations can remain queued. “Saved” is not the same as delivered.

How clients opt in

Clients can choose the optional SMS checkbox during client-portal setup or later in Profile settings. The disclosure identifies Contractor Codex, operated by Bulwark Black LLC, and the service business on whose behalf the messages are sent.

The disclosure covers supported quote, contract, appointment, project, invoice, payment, feedback, and related service notifications. It links to Text Message Terms and the Privacy Policy, explains variable frequency and possible message/data rates, and gives STOP/HELP instructions.

The choice stays with that saved mobile number until opt-out; clients do not need to recheck the box during ordinary portal use. A changed number needs a new opt-in. Older consent records may require renewal under the current disclosure. Profile changes to client SMS consent are made by the primary contact, not an arbitrary teammate.

Clients can use the portal without opting into texts. Ordinary client messages check current consent and opt-out state regardless of which admin toggles are on.

Choose when messages may send

The settings page separates admin alerts from client updates. It also provides:

  • Client quiet hours and a timezone.
  • A review-request link and supported delay choices.
  • A Client reachability count based on saved numbers and current opt-in records.

Quiet hours can cause an ordinary client notification to be skipped; do not assume every skipped message is queued for later. Review-request scheduling and opt-in-confirmation retries are separate mechanisms.

Opt out, help, and delivery limitations

Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Starting messages again does not fabricate a missing portal consent record; the current opt-in requirements still apply.

Turning ordinary texting off does not prevent the required one-time confirmation for a client who independently opts in. Carrier setup, blocked numbers, opt-outs, quiet hours, and delivery failures can prevent ordinary notifications.

Use the settings status and message outcome when investigating. A reachable-client count or enabled toggle is not a guarantee that a particular text reached the phone.
