Plutio alternative

Looking for a Plutio alternative?

Plutio and The Contractor Codex are aimed at the same person: an independent operator who is tired of paying for five tools. Plutio covers more surface area than we do, including forms, schedulers, and general workflow automation. We go deeper on the money. The two numbers worth checking before you choose are the client cap on Plutio's entry plan and what white-label costs.

In short

Plutio is a genuinely broad all-in-one at $19 a month, with projects, invoices, contracts, forms, schedulers, unlimited integrations, API access, and AI credits. It covers things we do not: forms, appointment scheduling, and workflow automation you shape yourself. Two things are worth knowing before you buy. Core is capped at 9 active clients and includes no additional contributors, so it is a solo plan. And white-label is an add-on on both Core and Pro, included only on Max at $199 a month. Here white-label is the default on every plan at $15, clients are unlimited, and internal users are unlimited. On billing we go further: six quote billing modes, retainer allowances with client-approved overage, passthrough, and a four-level collections ladder.

The Contractor Codex vs Plutio, at a glance

Both tools cover the basics. The differences sit in price, workflow shape, and which kind of service business each was built for.

Pick The Contractor Codex when…

  • You want the branded portal without buying a $199 tier or an add-on
  • You have more than nine active clients and do not want to move up a plan for it
  • You bill in named stages, or against a retainer allowance with an approval gate
  • You pass through hosting, domains, or API costs the client pays providers directly
  • You want collections to escalate on their own instead of sending reminders
  • You want an AI that can operate the business, not a credit-metered assistant

Pick Plutio when…

  • You need forms and an appointment scheduler in the same tool. We have neither
  • You want workflow automation you can build yourself rather than fixed billing automation
  • You are solo, under nine clients, and do not need white-label, where Core covers you
  • You would rather trial without a credit card, which their 7-day trial allows
  • You want a large integration surface and unlimited API access on the entry plan

The two numbers to check first

Plutio's Core plan is $19 a month and, at a glance, looks like more product than we sell at $15. Two limits decide whether that holds. Core allows 9 active clients; the tenth means moving to Pro at $49 a month. And white-label is an add-on on both Core and Pro, included only on Max at $199 a month. So the realistic comparison for someone who wants their own branding in front of clients is not $19 against $15. It is Pro plus an add-on, or Max at $199, against $15 with white-label included and clients unlimited. If you are solo, under nine clients, and happy for clients to see Plutio's branding, Core at $19 is a fair deal and this comparison is close to a coin flip on price.

Plutio covers more surface. We go deeper on money

This is the honest shape of it. Plutio has forms, appointment scheduling, and workflow automation you build yourself, plus unlimited integrations and API access on the entry plan. We have none of the first three: lead capture through an embed, no scheduler, and automation that is fixed around billing, dunning, and approvals rather than something you compose. What we have instead is depth on the one thing every independent operator eventually gets wrong, which is the money. Six billing modes on a quote, including a named milestone schedule where every stage and amount is printed so accepting the quote means agreeing to the whole schedule. Retainers with an allowance of included hours, where running out raises an overage request the client approves before billable work continues. Four levels of dunning with automatic late fees. And books that end in profit per job on an append-only chain.

Passthrough, which neither Plutio nor anyone else models

If you build websites or run systems for clients, some of the money in your month was never yours. Hosting, domains, SSL, and increasingly API and AI usage are the client's cost. Most tools, Plutio included, give you an invoice line or an expense record and leave that money running through your own billing, which inflates your apparent revenue and makes your margin look wrong. Mark a recurring line here as passthrough and the quote discloses it as an estimate so the client knows what they will owe their provider, and you never bill it and never collect it. Your profit per job, your P&L, and your tax exports all count only the work you actually sold. It is a small feature that quietly fixes a number you would otherwise explain to an accountant once a year.

Metered AI against an agent that operates the business

Plutio Pal comes with AI credits: 800 on Core, 2,500 on Pro, 10,000 on Max, alongside a workflow-action allowance. That is a reasonable model for an assistant that helps you write and organize. Ours is a different thing rather than a bigger one. This exposes an MCP server, so you connect Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible client and it operates the workspace from outside: draft a quote from a description, look up who owes you money and how late, start and stop work sessions, record a check that arrived, chase an unsigned contract. Anything that would email a client or move money stops and asks for approval first, and that gate lives in the tools rather than in the prompt. If you already work inside an AI client all day, that is a structural difference. If you do not, it is a feature you will not use and Plutio's credits are the more practical offer.

What Plutio has that we do not

Forms and an appointment scheduler, both on every plan, where we have a lead-capture embed and nothing for booking. Workflow automation you shape yourself. A broader integration surface with unlimited integrations and API access from Core up. Generous storage, from 100 GB on Core to 2 TB on Max. And a 7-day trial with no credit card, where ours is 30 days but asks for a payment method up front. If scheduling and forms are things you currently pay a separate tool for, folding them into Plutio may be worth more to you than billing depth.

Switching from Plutio

Export your client list from Plutio and re-create the records here, or bulk-load them with the create_client tool through an AI agent. Rebuild proposal and contract templates as Contract Templates and Quote Library entries; the starter library covers most common lines. The pieces that do not come across are forms, the scheduler, and any custom workflows you built, so have replacements picked before you move rather than after. Recurring revenue is worth planning rather than importing: a Plutio recurring invoice is a billing schedule, and a retainer here is an allowance of included hours with approval gating, so decide each client's included time first. If you are on Core and near the nine-client cap, that cap is usually the thing that prompts the move in the first place. Most people run both for one billing cycle before cancelling.

FAQ: The Contractor Codex vs Plutio

How is this different from Plutio?

Plutio covers more surface: forms, appointment scheduling, and workflow automation you build yourself, none of which we have. We go deeper on the money: six quote billing modes including named milestone schedules, retainers with an allowance and client-approved overage, passthrough for costs the client pays providers directly, a four-level dunning ladder with automatic late fees, and profit per job on an append-only ledger. White-label and unlimited clients are included here on every plan.

What does Plutio do better?

Forms and an appointment scheduler in the same tool. Workflow automation you can shape yourself, where ours is fixed around billing and approvals. A larger integration surface with unlimited API access from the entry plan. More storage. And a trial that does not ask for a card. If you currently pay for a separate scheduler or form tool, Plutio folding those in is a real saving.

Which is cheaper?

It depends on white-label and client count. Plutio Core is $19 a month, cheaper than nothing here, but it caps you at 9 active clients, includes no contributors, and treats white-label as a paid add-on. Unlimited clients start at Pro, $49 a month, and white-label is included only on Max at $199. We are $15 a month, or $12.50 billed annually, with white-label, unlimited clients, and unlimited internal users on every plan. Add our service fee on payments, 0.8% on Standard and 0.1% on the $35 Pro plan, on top of Stripe's processing rates.

Is there really a client limit on Plutio's entry plan?

Yes. Core allows 9 active clients as of August 19, 2026. Unlimited active clients start on Pro at $49 a month. It is worth checking against your own list before comparing entry prices, because the tenth client changes which plans you are actually comparing.

Do I have to pay extra for a branded client portal?

Not here. White-label is the default on both plans: your logo, accent color, domain, and sending address on every page, PDF, email, signing page, and receipt, with nothing referencing us anywhere a client can see. On Plutio, white-label is an add-on on Core and Pro and is included on Max at $199 a month.

Does this have forms or a scheduler?

No scheduler at all. For forms, there is a lead-capture embed you can put on your own site, which feeds a leads inbox, but it is not a general form builder. If you need intake forms and client booking, Plutio covers both and we do not.
